Designed keeping the functional aspect of an outdoor fireplace, fire pits are available in a multitude of sizes and colors. The different types of fire pits also vary in the fuel source, and while certain fire pits use direct fuels such as charcoal or wood, others utilize derived fuels such as propane or natural gas. Gas fire pits typically run on natural gas, and most models tend to be fixed units rather than portable. Gas fire pits invariably need to be connected to the natural gas supply lines that link to the main portion of the house. Gas fire pits may also be designed to function on propane, and these can be used as portable fire pits since a compact fuel tank would suffice as the fuel source, and this can be attached to the main unit when required.
